Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was a Finnish-American architect and designer whose work became central to mid-century modern design. Combining Scandinavian influences with American modernism, he developed a sculptural approach to furniture based on organic forms, technological experimentation and a close relationship between objects and architectural space. His long collaboration with Knoll produced landmark designs including the Womb chair, the Pedestal Collection of Tulip chairs and tables, and the 70 Series seating.
